Installation Instructions For Windows

For Windows 10/11, you can install from the Microsoft store.

Otherwise, continue following the instructions on this page. These are for Windows 10, using the Edge browser. Earlier versions of Windows, and other web browsers, will be similar.

(For Windows XP/Vista, use "PatchPerfectXP.msi" instead of "PatchPerfect10.msi", and "SetupXP.exe" instead of "Setup.exe".)

Downloads are shown in the upper-right corner of the browser:

Click the folder button, shown above with the "Open downloads folder" tip. Windows File Explorer should appear:

Use the secondary mouse-button (usually the right-hand-side button) to click on PatchPerfect10.zip. This will bring up the menu as seen above, click "Extract All..."

On the following screen, click "Extract":"

You should see the files PatchPerfect10.msi and Setup.exe:

Files with the "msi" extension are Windows installation packages - double-click PatchPerfect10.msi and Windows will begin installation automatically.

If you encounter problems installing PatchPerfect10.msi (particularly if you are upgrading from a previous version), then try Setup.exe instead.

We recommend you use the default settings. PatchPerfect 1.0 is a very small installation, less than 6MB, and requires no other files or databases. All features are ready out-of-the-box, including 350+ ready-made quilt blocks.

Launching PatchPerfect

Assuming installation has gone smoothly, you will now have a shortcut on your Windows desktop, which you can double-click to launch PatchPerfect. Also a "PatchPerfect" item will be in your list of installed programs (accessed via the Windows-logo button in Windows 10, usually bottom-left of the screen).

As you will not yet have a licence key, you will encounter this screen:

Click "No" to go to the "Unlicensed Options" screen:

Click "Start Evaluation Session", and you can try out the app. You can run as many evaluation sessions as you want, even without a licence.

Tips

Great effort has gone into making PatchPerfect very easy to use, but even so, most software applications can take a little getting accustomed to, so here are some tips:

Try drag-and-drop: many screen-objects can simply be dragged to where you want them ; patches, colours, fabric patterns, and blocks can all be dragged and dropped.

Zoom-in: PatchPerfect will auto-align dragged patches and blocks with existing patches on the workspace. Zooming-in can help if it gets tricky to align on the exact edge you want.

Existing patches get deleted in favour of new ones if they overlap: If you are puzzled as to why sometimes patches disappear, then it is almost always this behaviour taking effect. This makes the app a lot easier to use, you can simply replace existing patches by dropping new ones on top of them.
